Many members of Maxima.org have expressed interest in the upper intake pipe from the Place Racing Cold Air Intake kit. This pipe replaces all of the resonators and flex couplings between the MAF sensor and the throttle body. The purpose of this is to smooth the flow of air as it enters the throttle body. Place Racing charges over $60 for this piece. You now have another option.
I can make these pipes for a very low cost. They are 2.25" in diameter and will include side extensions welded on for the two crankcase breather pipes. Also included will be rubber hoses for the crankcase breathers as the OEM hoses are form fit and will not reach. The pipe attatches to the throttle body with a straight rubber coupling and to the MAF using a rubber step-down coupling. The OEM clamps for the breather tubes must be reused, but the clamps for the main couplings will be included.
The only downsides to my pipe versus the PR version are that mine may not look as pretty as I am an amatuer welder and I cannot really offer you any kind of warranty. However, this thing is just a pipe so not a whole lot can go wrong with it.
On the car, this makes a differnce. If you already have a Stillen or JWT intake, you will notice that the sound gets louder. It also gets a bit more raw sounding. The metal pipe just transmits the intake noise much more directly. There is a noticeable increase in top end power, especially in the 75-100 mph region. This piece will also compliment the OSCAI nicely.
I am a college student with access to my departments machine shop where I will be constructing these. I will probably only produce a small run of these since my time and materials are scarce. These pipes will fit all 4th gen Maximas. The price will be $30 plus shipping to your location, I will ship UPS ground and provide a tracking number via Email. As of right now the only form of payment I can accept is postal money order.
This is good view of the pipe. Notice how close the rubber couplers are to the breathers. This is just to make room for the large stock airbox, Stillen, JWT, and HKS users hsouldnt have this issue.
This just shows how the breather is hooked up and mounted.
It is important that the clamp on the throttle body not interfere with the throttle linkage...yes I learned this the hard way.
This rubber adaptor comes on the MAF, it needs to stay on there too.
